Local Music and Dance Forms
Our dances are rooted in our cultural background. The adjacent State Rajasthan has a deep impact on our culture. In our area there is scarcity of water so village women go carrying pitchers on their heads to fetch water. The Dance "Bhanwai" shows this well. Our folk dancers carry nine or ten pitchers and dance in rhythm. It's all about balance and well calculated movements. They walk on stones, sharp swords, saucers and spikes too. All spectators are awe struck to watch this feat. We have trained a group of junior and senior girls to perform this dance. A local Folk dancer arranged for a workshop in our school for nearly a month last year. Another dance "Kalbelia" is also a local dance form, the snake charmers of our area entertain themselves watching this dance. The dancers wearing black costumes and dancing to fast rhythm are worth beholding. Their movements are quick and their bodies show extreme flexibility. They can stoop low and bend backwards. They can pick a bottle and untie a tied handkerchief with their mouths. Our girls have attained perfection in this Dance form too with the help of local Artists. "Rasia" dance from State Uttar Pradesh is also popular among girls. The gaudy costumes and make up are the major attractions. All local dance forms have been adopted by us. We wish to revive them and this only can be done when we do something to popularize them. In all our cultural functions we perform such dances.
